Dr. Pramod Krishnan is a forester by profession, passion, and education with over 35 years of experience in forest governance and community based natural resource management. He played a pivotal role in developing the globally acclaimed ‘Periyar Model’ of conservation, which marked a watershed moment in the evolution of participatory forest management in India.
Among his transformative contributions is the formulation and enactment of Kerala’s Ecorestoration Policy (2021), a landmark initiative that, among other measures, phased out monoculture exotic forest plantations in the state. Currently serving as the Chief Wildlife Warden of Kerala, Dr. Krishnan provides visionary leadership in addressing complex challenges confronting the State such as human–wildlife conflict and climate change adaptation. Beyond his administrative and conservation roles, he is also a writer, orator, and cultural figure, contributing actively to public discourse on nature, society and sustainability.
