Chairperson, 39th Kerala Science Congress
Dr. Suresh Das is an eminent scientist with distinguished contributions to Photosciences and Photonics, particularly in photoresponsive materials, photonic applications and solar energy conversion. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, and has undertaken postdoctoral research at the Max Planck Institute, Germany, and universities in the USA.
He joined CSIR–NIIST (then Regional Research Laboratory, Thiruvananthapuram) in 1989 and served as Director, CSIR–National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR–NIIST) from 2009. He subsequently served as Executive Vice-President, Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) and Ex-officio Principal Secretary, Science and Technology, Government of Keralam.
A Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy and the Indian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Das has received several national and international honours, including the J. C. Bose National Fellowship, MRSI Distinguished Lectureship Award, CRSI Silver and Bronze Medals, and the Asian and Oceanian Photochemical Society Award.
With his extensive experience in scientific research, institution building, science policy and industry–academia collaboration, Dr. Suresh Das brings a wealth of scientific leadership to the 39th Kerala Science Congress.
