“Padma Bhushan Professor P. Balaram is a distinguished Indian biochemist and molecular biologist known for his significant contributions to the fields of protein chemistry, molecular biophysics, and bioorganic chemistry. He served as the Director of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, from 2005 to 2014. Balaram's research has focused on the structure and function of peptides and proteins, particularly in understanding their folding and interactions. His work has been influential in advancing the understanding of bioorganic mechanisms. A recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the Padma Bhushan (2014) and R.B. Merrifield Award (2021) by the American Peptide Society. Prof. Balaram remains a highly respected figure in Indian science. He is currently serving as the Senior Visiting Professor at National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bengaluru.”
